Online dating has brought the most unlikely world’s together and can be attributed to connecting many different cultures including local connections between men and women that otherwise would never had crossed paths. And as the rise of online romance booms, criminal element activities are also weighing in.

What many people are not fully aware of is that organized groups of online criminals pose as legit lonesome singles on many dating sites, and will lure in the vulnerable and lonely in order to ruin you both mentally and financially.

The online dating industry now has a large presence of free dating websites, and this is where many of the con artists set up shop. Not to say that just because a dating site is free you shouldn’t join, let’s face it, it’s hard to go past such an offer without checking out the facts first. A professional free online dating site will only allow people to sign up who’s IP address is registered within the country that the dating site operates. So this essentially eliminates 90% of would be scammers who generally come from Nigeria and Senegal.

Whilst such safety measures will remove 90% of the threat, some of these slippery scammers will sometimes slip through the net, so it is up to you to initiate some basic common sense and go with your gut feeling when someone contacts you.

If an offer comes your way that seems to good to be true, treat it that way – guilty until proven innocent! Be on the lookout for profiles with stunning women and studio quality photos that contain messages sent to you relating to marriage, sex or if the message is in a broad context and not composed in an individual/personal manner.

A typical approach by a con artist will try to befriend someone online and will seek financial assistance to pay for travel costs in order to visit you. Knowing when you are being conned online is not rocket science to detect, but it is those who are most vulnerable or lonely that are often willing to trust someone unconditionally.

Building trust is the first element you need to establish before giving anyone anything. What would you do if a complete stranger approached you in the street and offered to have sex with you, or asked you for money – most people would think it was an unusual proposal – an online scenario is no different.

When they catch these online dating scammers, myself I feel that they should educate these scumbags and one solution would be to put them in prison for about 20 years with no possibility for parole. I have no respect for online dating scammers as these type of people have no morality, no feelings or care for what they do and the only thing they are out to do is scam money from members of online dating sites.

Another solution would be to put a tattoo on their foreheads in black that says “I am a Scammer”, then everybody realizes and knows who these lowlifes are.
